Silver Screen

仕事が忙しくて何週間ぶりかの更新になってしまいました。
ちょうど一区切りついたのでちょっと一息。

「カンフーパンダ」観ました。最初はあんまり乗り気じゃなかったのですが
観にいった友人達が皆、口をそろえて「すごくよかった」と言うので、つい。
「レミーの美味しいレストラン」の時と同じ展開だな。これって。
評判どおりすごく良かったです。よく動くし、観ていて楽しい。
唯一気になったのがシナリオの練りの甘さかな。
まあ、カンフーアクションが売りの映画に深いシナリオを期待するのが
間違いなのかも、という気もしましたけど。
でもやっぱり巻物の秘密を悟るシーンは唐突すぎると思う。

周りでPixarの新作、Wall-E観にいこうぜ！と盛り上がってるのですが
こっちもあんまり乗り気しないです。でもアニメーターの上司が「よかった」って
言ってるから、なんとなく一緒に観にいっちゃう予感。
３Dと言えば公開が待ち遠しいのがHellBoy２。
何よりもクリ－チャーデザインと、どういう動きをするのかが楽しみです。

Hmmm. It’s been couple of weeks since the last entry. I’ve been busy working, but the most hard part is done. Finally! Yay! I saw Kung Fu Panda last weekend. When I saw the trailer I wasn’t too excited about that honestly. I thought it’s going to be pretty boring. Many of my friends went to see it anyway, and all of them loved the movie. Then I started to think that maybe I should go watch that too. This is kind of like what was like when Ratatouille came out. I was still curious, but bought a ticket and sat with my friend Eliot, who loves and knows a lot about kung-fu fight, and we both liked it a lot. The movie has really good cartoony fighting animation in 3D, something that Square could’ve tried in Advent Children. The character animation is exaggerated, but still believable, and actually more breathtaking than realistic fighting. Dream Works this time made pretty amazing animated fight successfully. The only thing I was not sure about the movies though, is the plot. Maybe it’s not fair to point out the glitch in the story line, since this movie’s primary focus is the action, but even though I still think the climax happens too quick. I am especially talking about the “secret ingredients” scene. To me it was too sudden.

Couple of my friends are planning to go watch Wall-E…again, I’m not too excited about that, but my animation boss already went and told how “very good” the movie was, so…I might go and probably like it like the one above. There are other movies I’m more excited. Hell Boy 2 is one of them. I can’t wait to see the creatures moving on screen!

もう六月ですね。暖かくなってきました。
日照時間も長くなり、朝夕と部屋を満たす爽やかな光の下で
床を這い回るアリの数を数える毎日です。ええ。アリ。

・・・というようなアリ害に関する愚痴を書こうと思っていたのが
気がつけば一週間以上経ってしまって、
知らないうちにアリたちは全滅してしまったみたいです。
アリホイホイってすごいね。
夜中に半泣きでN氏に電話で訴えたのもいい思い出。

いやまあそれはいいんだ。

ボストンはここ数日死ぬほど暑いです。
先日エアコンのない家に泊まった時は体力の限界を感じました。
今年は何人くらい大変な事になってしまうのでしょうか。
皆さん無事に暑さを乗り切って欲しいものです。
で、暑い中もくもくと映画観たり読書したりしているわけですが。

インディアナ・ジョーンズ４を観ました。
このオチはないだろう、スピルバーグなんだし、と思って
１を観たら、ああこれでいいんだ、と妙に納得させられました。
ハリソン・フォードってかっこいいよね。

The　Fallという映画を観ました。The Cellを撮った監督の最新作で
個人的にすごく好きです。シンプルでハッとするような色使いとか
主演の子役の女の子の自然な子供らしいしぐさとか、すごくいい。
撮影中の事故で怪我をして入院している映画役者が、
小児病棟の女の子に、創作童話を聞かせてあげる、と言うお話で
ファンタジーが好きな人は楽しめると思います。

ものすごい勢いで友達からもらった本を読破中。
今読んでるのは三島由紀夫の「不道徳教育講座」。
なんか物事に対するスタンスが絶望先生に近いと思う。
実は三島由紀夫ってなんとなくとっつき悪い印象があって
今まで読んだことなかったのですが、
意外とユーモアのセンスもある人なんだなあと。新発見です。

Summer time has started, and we are all excited, as well as ants. I found this annoying little neighbors couple weeks ago. I didn’t have them last summer, and I wonder if this has something to do with the global warming. Maybe not. Anyways, I was really irritated seeing them all around in my studio apartment, (it’s not fun when you are living in a studio, which means you have no other room to run away) so I decided to vanish them with some anti ant stuff. I hope they enjoyed the meal.

I’ve been watching movies and reading books as always. We went to see Indiana Jones 4, which was pretty entertaining. Couple of my friends had harsh comments on the movie, mostly because they are huge fans of the original series. It was ok and fun for me. Yeah. It was ok. (which, according to my friend, means “bad” for being Indiana Jones. Iｔ must be “awesome”, he says.)

Other film I watched is The Fall. I really like the visuals and the little girl actor…she is just so heartwarming to watch. I like the simple composition and use of vivid colors…sometimes the simplicity of color palette gets a bit too much, but generally they are irresistible to me. The first sequence, all in slow motion was very beautiful too. I was not so in to the slomo, which kind of looks too much again, but the compositions in shots were great.

Boston this week is hot. I mean the weather. It’s ridiculous. I thought I won’t be able to survive this summer, seriously, if it’s becoming more heated in mid summer. I hope I will make it though. And all of you, too.
