Silver Screen

仕事用のHDDが二回連続で昇天しました。呪われているのでしょうか。ああもう。
なんかね、今年は運が悪いような気がします。
普段めったに風邪なんかひかないのに、今年に入ってから三回くらい熱でたし。
PC関係の不調とかしょっちゅうだし。ああもう。もふー。

最近苗字の事で楽しい事がありました。村上っていうと村上春樹を思い出す人が多くて
いろんなところで名前を聞かれるたびにハルキスト友が増えていくのです。
ハルキストなタクシーの運転手さんに会ったときはちょっと興奮しました。
その人には長距離恋愛中の日本人の彼女がいて、中野区で働いているそうですが
なんだかどことなく不倫的な香りがするお話だったのであまり深く聞けませんでした・・・。

あと最近読んでる本とか。沢木耕太郎の「夕陽が目にしみる」を読み終えたのが昨日。
あまりよく知らない方ですが、この人は本当に文章を書くのが上手いなあと思います。
こんなふうに文章が書けたらかっこいいだろうなあ。
今年卒業するRISDの友達が、引越しでいらない日本語の本を譲ってくれました。
３０冊。小躍りして喜ぶ毎日です。えへー。

My HDD died twice in a row. This proves that I’m having bad luck this year…I had few bad cold earlier this year (I usually don’t get sick that often) and I’m having lots of PC related troubles…I hope this ends asap. Let’s talk about some good things. I’ve been finding new Haruki Murakami fan friends, because of my last name. When I spell out my name, some people ask if I am related to the writer. I wish I was…really…(but not. unfortunately) One taxi driver said he loves Windup Bird Chronicles, and we talked about the scary skinning scene in one of the war stories. He said he has a girl friend in Tokyo, who has a child…it sounded rather a complicated kind of relationship, so I didn’t go too far asking about her.

My friend who is graduating RISD this year gave me a bunch of Japanese novels to read. I am very excited to read his collection, especially his Haruki Murakami books!

Kujiraが2008 Marin County Festival of Short Film and Videoで
Best Animated賞をいただきました。７月２日から６日にかけて、
カリフォルニア州で開催されるMarin County Fair会場内で上映されるとの事です。

先週末母校のRISDで卒業制作映画の上映会があったので行ってきました。
全日程を観ることはできなくて残念でしたが、
観れた範囲に関しては、いい出来だったと思います。
今年はライブアクション部門の作品の出来が驚くほどよかったです。
アニメーションもそれぞれ個性がでていて良かった。
紙の質感にこだわった作品をちらほら見かけたので、
ああ、Kujiraと同じ方向でがんばった人たちがいるんだなーと
ほんわかした気分になりました・・・

I just got great news about Kujira this morning. It is awarded for Best Animated prise in 2008 Marin County Festival of Short Film and Video! The festival will be open July 2 to 6, in California. RISD’s Senior Film Animation Video Show was last weekend. Noah and I went to see the show on Saturday; we really wanted to come on Friday too, but we couldn’t manage time…busy, busy. I thought live action side this year was pretty good. I liked two of the documentaries very much, as well as the one that had soma animated effects. Animation this year was also good, I was glad to see some pieces using paper texture effect, like I tried last year…

今週からクランチでございます。追い込み期間というか修羅場というか。
一日１１時間。土曜も休日出勤。なんか大学時代みたいですよ。
今日は木曜で、疲れが溜まってるのがすごくわかります。
なんか体だるいし。眠いし。
コーヒーの摂取量が急に増えたような気がする。
せっかくカフェイン中毒治ったのになー。
コーヒーって飲みすぎると中毒になるんですよね。
べつになっても、カフェイン摂るのやめてしばらくすれば治るんですけど。
あと、症状といっても頭痛くらいでたいしたこと無いんだけど。
あ、残業期間中は夕食が出るので家計が大変助かるのです。んー。

Crunching started earlier this week. It’s Thursday now, and I can feel my body getting exhausted now . It’s kind of nice that they provide dinner everyday…Eating dinner and staying late at night with coworkers feel like we are all working on a studio class assignment in college. mmm. I found coffee helps keep me going during this crazy schedule, so I started to rely on it again. This is not good, because I used to be addicted to caffeine. When I didn’t drink coffee I used get pretty bad headache. I fixed this problem by cutting caffeine from my diet, and I’ve been free from the addiction for more than couple of months. But now…I need coffee…at least till this crunchy crunch ends…

今日は土曜日なのでだらだらできて嬉しいです。
でも気がつけば７時起きで掃除している自分。
ダメだこいつ・・・はやく何とかしないと！
休めるときに休んでおかないと後が大変なのですよ。
来週から大変なのですよ。いろいろと。ええ、まあ大人の事情。（うそうそ）
果たして今年はうちの会社に夏休みはくるのか・・・。

最近観たものとか・・・ええと「俗・さよなら絶望先生」。アニメ第二期ですが
個人的に一期よりも出来がよかったと思います。
N氏に見せても笑いのツボが理解できなかったようで、とても残念。
こういうとき一緒にバカ笑いできる日本人友がいるといいなあと思います。
ああ、孤独だなあ。

「アイアンマン」観ました。
史上最高の出来栄えのスーパーヒーロー映画 と評判ですが
期待を裏切らず、大人が見ても楽しめるシナリオで、満足満足。
実はあんまりスーパーヒーローは興味が無いのですが
そんな鳥っこでも十分楽しかったので、是非。金曜の夜にぴったり。

今週はさる方面の関係者の方々とお話しする機会がありました。
知らなかった業界のしきたりの話とか聞けて楽しかったです。
ナレーションは必ず座って録音するものだそうで。
あと台本は絶対縦書きじゃないといけないとか。
知らなかった・・・。

So, this is finally Saturday. I’m happy and ready to do absolutely nothing but chilling! …well, that was what I was thinking last night. This morning, I woke up and started cleaning my room, and then realized it’s around 7:30 am. Oh boy. I should get more rest and sleep whenever I can, especially around this time of the year…I hope hmx will have summer vacation actually in summer this time.

I have watched Goodbye Mr. Despair the second season this week. This is a TV animation series aired in Japan few months ago, and this show is all about parodies of manga, anime, and making jokes about current hot topics in news. I really enjoy this show, but no one else around me understands the joke. I long for being able to have friends to share this fun experience.

Last week we went to watch Iron Man the movie. I wasn’t excited about this that much, because I am not really into super hero stuff in general. My friends kept telling how this one is “the best super hero movie ever made,” so I finally decided to go. It was pretty good indeed. Pretty nice option for Friday night.

先週末まで春らしく暖かい陽気だったのに、週があけてみれば雨。
氷雨のような寒さですよ、あなた。せっかくワンピースとかスカートとか出して浮かれてたのに。
このがっかり具合が伝染したらしくて、月曜日はかなりの人数が欠勤してました。
これだけ温度差があればみんな体調も悪くなりますよね。
ちくしょうあたしの春を返せ！

さて、相変わらずのんびりまったりな毎日ですが、
映画とか料理とかを、もそもそエンジョイしております。
先週は映画祭が近所であり、上映されていた「大日本人」を観たと言う相棒に影響されて
DVDを借りてきました。色々評価がアレな映画らしいですが・・・。
最初っから最後まで実写の怪獣バトルだけにしておけばよかったのにと思いました。
板尾さん最高。ごっつが懐かしいなあ。

友人が岡本喜八監督の「大菩薩峠（東宝版）」を持っていたので借りて観てみました。すごい！
こんなにかっこいいチャンバラものは久しぶり。白黒の昔の映画ですが
役者の侍姿が堂に入っていて迫力満点でした。それとキャスティングがいいんですよ。
昔の役者さんはあまり知らないのですが、みんな特徴ある顔で見ていて楽しいです。
キャラがたってるっていうか。バラエティに富んでいていい。
ついでに小林正樹監督の「切腹」も見てみたのが昨日の夜。
「大菩薩峠」のような大立ち回りは少ないものの、絶妙な台詞まわしとタイミングで
「羅生門」を思わせる緊張感があります。心からいい映画だな、と思いました。

I’ve been watching Japanese films lately. IFF Boston was the past week, and I heard Big Man Japan was screened at there. I haven’t watched the film by my favorite comedian Hitoshi Matsumoto, so I wanted to go but I couldn’t make it. Later that week I rented DVD and finally was able to see it. It was fun…though it gets really slow and awkward in many places. It’s almost like, you have to wait for 20 to 30 min for watching really good funny kaiju fight. My favorite scene is the smelly monsters’ invasion in the city, though it gets a little too dirty…(the male monster’s … uh…) I also liked the kaiju battle with the superheroes toward the end. Why didn’t he do this from the beginning??

We watched The Sword of Doom the other day. I think this is an amazing samurai film. It is an old film, but it still has very strong images and good sword fighting scenes. I like how the actors have various different facial structures in this film. They all have strong character and appearance, and also all of them look spontaneous in samurai kimono. The other movie we watched this week is Harakiri, also a samurai movie. This one is more like Rashomon, more focused on human drama than sword action. I really love this film, because it is very successful in creating emotional tension in a scene without having physical action. I enjoyed the samurai language used in lines, they are all choreographed in a beautiful manner.
