今日スタバへ行ったらカップの名前のところにRykuって書かれていました。ラ　イ　ク！！
うん、お姉さんはこの大胆さと創造性をずっと大切にして欲しいと思うんだ。
遠い目でそんなことを（心の中で）つぶやいた２５の春。

もう３月なのに寒いですね。少なくともボストンは寒いですよ。
こちらのレッドソックスがそちらにお邪魔しているみたいで。
ゲームの余興（？）のクリップをちらっとテレビで見かけて思ったんだけど、
剣道とか和太鼓とか、そこまでしなくても、もう十分アメリカ人、日本わかってるよ。
サムライとかスシとかゲイシャとか。
ちゃんと忍者だってノンフィクションだってわかってる。（特にこことか。）

同僚から伊藤潤二の「うずまき」（英訳版）を借りて読んでいます。
英語版の「富江」はすごい読みにくい印象だったけど
こっちはさくさく読める感じ。なんでだろう？
ホラー漫画だけど（それほど）グロくないので鳥っこも安心です。
読んでるうちにうずまき模様が、すごく不吉で怖いもののように思えてくる不思議な漫画です。

I like how people at Starbucks are creative about inventing new spelling for my name. This morning they came up with Ryku. Very cute. But the most astonishing one so far is the legendary “Raqmo”, which is not even close to my real name Reiko. I liked the spelling so much that my friends and boss started calling me raqmo or raq.

So it’s March already, and Boston is still freezing. Speaking about Boston, our beloved Red Sox is playing in Japan, I heard. I saw a video clip of Japanese half time show which features a bunch of Kendo people doing sword dance thing and some Japanese Wadaiko drummers performing. It’s cool, I guess, but I feel like there is no need for advertising traditional stuff to Americans any more. People in the U.S. already know a lot about traditional Japanese culture. Especially this guy. We all know Samurai and Ninja are for real.

Paul at work let me borrow his Uzumaki comics. I’ve read Tomie done by the same artist Junji Ito. I had a hard time concentrating reading Tomie, but Uzumaki is so much better. I can’t really name the reason, but somehow Uzumaki fits better in English. The comic is weird-cool, it makes me grow fear towards spiral patterns in everyday life.

昨日は木曜だったのでLOSTを見たりN氏がメガマンやったりしてるのをぼんやり眺めていました。
ああ、ていうかロックマンだ。岩男。ジャンプしてる時のグラフィックがかわいいですね。
ああ、あと猫が欲しい今日この頃。ていうかね、ロックマンの腕から発射されてる物体が
大豆にしか見えないのですが。ほら、あの薄黄色いアレ。

It was Thursday yesterday, so I was watching LOST. Noah was playing Megaman on 360. I like the jump graphic of megaman….very cute…also, the yellow circular thing that megaman shoots…I guess it is actually a bunch of soy beans. He maybe a vegan.
I think I need a cat in my life.

最近ちょっと忙しいです。ここ一週間にやった事とか思い返してみたり。

-月に一回親に手紙を出すことを決意。書きたいことをテキトーに書こうと思う。
-姉が日本に行くので本を頼んでみる。
-最近やっと一人でスタバのソイティーミストがオーダーできるようになった。（別名ロンドンフォグもしくはノアスペシャル）
-毎朝ジムに行くのが日課になりつつある。なんかフィットネスおたくみたいでちょっと恥ずかしい。
-日本に小包を送る。Fedexが思ったより早くて確実だが、同じく、思ったより高くて油断できない。
-映画館で二本立ての昔の映画を観る。フラッシュゴードンとストリーツオブファイア。
フラッシュゴードンを見る前に一杯やっとけばよかったとプチ後悔。でもビールなしでも十分笑える。
ストリーツオブファイアは普通によかった。エンディングに感動。せつないね。
-暇になるとサイトのアクセスログを眺めている。
うしおととらの検索で迷い込んできている人たちに申し訳ないので
そのうち、かがり姉さんでも描いてアップしようと思う。
ハッピースピリチュアル（以下略）で来ている人たちに親近感。
-ヒラリー氏のアレは・・・なんていう髪型？

Getting a bit busy lately…let”s see what I’ve done this past week…

-decided to write a letter to mom every month. but I’m too lazy to write something nice, so it’ll be basically a series of random notes. enjoy, mom!
-asked sis for some Japanese paperbacks. She is going to Japan…so jealous…
-finally being able to order soy tea misto (aka Noah’s usual or London Fog) at starbucks by myself.
-going gym almost every morning. I feel a bit weird because it makes me feel like I am fitness maniac. (which is not true)
-sent a package to Japan…using fedex. Fedex is cool, fast, reliable, but expensive. :p
-watched Flash Gordon and Streets of Fire at Brattles double showcase. I should have gotten beer before the show…but Flash was hilarious even without a beer. Streets of Fire was really good. Moving ending. mmm.
-looking at access log whenever I’m bored. Feeling sorry for people coming to see pics related to Ushio to Tora. I’ll upload kagari’s pic when I get it done. Also, happy to see how many people are curious enough to google search “Happy Spiritual Makeup Adviser”…(yo buddies!)
-named Hilary’s hair style “ambiguously mullet” (no offense by the way)

最近またKujira関連で用事が増えて、仕事以外でやや忙しいのです。
今日は選考審査用のテープのダビングに隣町まで出かけてきました。
ちょっと特殊なテープを提出しないといけない用事があって。
ていうかね、いまどきBetacamって。
Betacamは画質の良い、プロ用のビデオテープなんですが、
とにかく高い。ブランクテープ買うのも高いけどダビングも高い。
６分のKujira一回ダビングするので５０ドルですって。６分ですよ？
大学の機材使えればタダなんだけどなあ。ああ、あの時無理してダビングしとけばよかった・・・。
銀行の残高とか色々考えながら悶々と出来上がりを待っていたのですが、
（応対してくれたボブさんはとても丁寧で感じのいい人でした）
意外にも出来上がりのクオリティが完璧じゃないとかでタダにしてもらえました。
選考審査には十分耐えうる画質だから大丈夫って言ってたし。
ラッキー！！

Why is Betacam so expensive…? I was hustling making festival submission copy of Kujira on Betacam today. I always wonder why this thing is still there and so expensive. The studio I went asked for somewhere around 50 bucks for making one copy of 6 min. Kujira on Beta SP. Sigh. So I was sitting on a chair at their kitchen and thinking about my bank accounts and stuff, until it was done. Bob, the tech person (he was very kind and polite) said the studio is not satisfied with the result, because there is a minor problem on the copy. It’s still good enough for my purpose for sure, he said. So I said I don’t mind. Then he said he won’t charge for this job due to the quality. What a lucky day!

Kujira has selected for the winner of Student Experimental/Animation category in Carolina Film and Video Festival 2008. This was totally a surprise to me, and I am glad and nervous at the same time. I am happy just to have an opportunity to show my film in front of many people, and I wasn’t even thinking winning award or prise. (…In fact I usually don’t check if the festival I’m submitting to gives prise or not…) I could not attend the festival, but, well, if anyone from CFVF actually checks this, I would like to say big THANK YOU!
