Silver Screen

先週のエントリでGDCでオフィスを空けていたティムの机に
QAの人たちがイタズラしてたっていうようなことを書いたのですが
今日、本人が帰ってきました。いたずらっこの多いｈｍｘの事・・・
出社時の反応をだれかさんが早速ビデオ配布している模様。
ちゃんと上の許可はとってあるみたいなのでこっちでも公開します。

So I wrote how a bunch of QA guys timfoiled Tim’s desk while he is gone for GDC last week. Well, this morning he came to office, and someone recorded his response. sssurpriseee!! This video is all good to spread, I heard, so here you go…

GDC was this week, and many of us are out of office to attend the event. Then, some clever QA guys decided to decorate their lead’s (who is at the GDC) desk with…tinfoil. This is the best thing I saw in this month. I can’t wait to see this guy, Tim’s face when he comes back. Oh boy, they even made Tim-mummy out of tinfoil. LOL!!

ゲーム業界での一大イベント、GDCが今週カリフォルニアであったので、
それに参加するためにオフィスを空けている人が多いのですが
QAのおちゃめな人たちが、ボスの不在を記念してこんなイタズラをしている様子。
机の周りのありとあらゆるものがアルミホイルでラップされています。
モニターからフィギュアから壁のポスター、果ては置き忘れたコインまで。
さすがQA。こんくらいの根気がないと勤まらない仕事なのも確かですけど。
（クオリティ・アシュアランス。テスターともいいますね。バグがないか確かめるのがお仕事）
とりあえず本人が帰ってくるのが楽しみでしょうがないぜ！！なあティム！！（強く生きろよ・・・）

Kujiraが上映されるのは最終日の８日土曜日、Marvell Centerに於いて午前の部です。

最近、夜はヒッチコックの映画を観ています。
クリスマスにN氏からもらったDVDボックスセットがあるので。
まだ全作を観たわけではないのですが、今のところベスト３は
「めまい」「見知らぬ乗客」「マーニー」かな。
N氏につきあって色々なDVDを観るのですが
今まで観た映画の中での自分的ベストは
やっぱり黒澤明の「羅生門」とヒッチコックの「めまい」か
「見知らぬ乗客」だなあと思いました。
映画でトリハダたったのは「羅生門」がはじめてですね。

最近見た映画の中で一番すごいなあと思ったのは三池崇史の「牛頭」。
相変わらずの暴力描写ですが、ここまで暗示的な絵を撮る人だとは知らなかった。
暴力は苦手ですが、こういうシュール路線はとても好きなので
是非もういちどゆっくり吟味したい作品です。

I’ve been watching the Hitchcock DVD box set Noah gave me for Christmas every night. I haven’t watched all of the director’s work, but so far I like Vertigo, Strangers on a Train, and Marnie the best. I love how Hitchcock uses composition–position of characters on a screen, objects, shadows, and colors–to tell so many about his characters’ emotions. Once at college I took Hitchcock analysis class, and I loved writing paper about his films. Vertigo and Strangers on a Train, especially, were good subjects to discuss. (what beautiful pieces of art they are!)

Me and Noah watch many DVDs every month. He watches films more than anyone I’ve ever seen. So thanks to Noah, I am rapidly gaining knowledge about films lately. We watched Miike’s Gozu the other day, and I was surprised that Miike makes such a surreal film different from his other violent yakuza movies. The film is hard to understand its plot, because there are so many surreal expressions that doesn’t follow regular story telling rules. I would love to watch it again to take a closer look on the metaphors Miike uses in the film. I love surreal films containing lots of good visual metaphors. Hitchcock is one of the best directors who does that.

I was thinking what I would name for the best of all the films I’ve seen, and Hitchcock’s Vertigo and Strangers on a Train came to my mind as well as Kurosawa’s Rashomon. Rashomon was the only and the first (I believe) film that gave me a shiver when I first watched it. mmm mmm beautiful, beautiful work of art…

最近コンセプトデザインを練ってるときによく言われるのが
「このへんとこのへん、もうちょっとロックなかんじにしてよ」
という一言なんですが、ロックっつってもなあ。
わかりやすいようで意外と奥が深いロックの世界。
とりあえずガイコツ模様にすりゃいいってもんでもないのです。
インターン時代に皆でロックの定義について議論した日々を思い返す今日この頃。
そういえばN氏んちの近所の中華料理屋が
みるたびに、なんかイライラする名前なのです。

I often get a request to make concept designs more “ROCK”. It sounds easy, but not really. We used to spend extra time trying to figure out what’s the definition of ROCK supposed to be. mmm. What is ROCK and what is not?

Btw I’ve seen a chinese restaurant named Wok’n Roll, and I still don’t know what’s so ROCK about the restaurant.
