観たいものは

相方と言い争いになったときに初めて気がついたのですが
そういえば最近、本当に自分のやりたい事をやっていない・・・。
休みの日にすることっていったら大抵、
いつものメンバーでだらだら映画みたり料理したりなんだけど、
本当に自分のチョイスで映画とか観てない！
料理は基本的に自分の食べたいもの作ってますが。
（おかげで作るもの全部日本食だ・・・）
で、丁度今週相方がNYに出張だったので、いない間に
彼のNetflixアカウントで好きな映画を観ておりました。
うん。プチハッキング。いや、ことわってあるけどね。
観た映画はThe Blue Planet。大自然ドキュメンタリーです。
小さい頃、NHKさんの「生きもの地球紀行」が大好きでした。
風邪引いて小学校休んだ日も、頭痛をこらえて観てました。
なんか、淡々としたナレーションと美麗な映像の組み合わせがいいんですよ。
最近のアニマルプラネットみたいに、
妙にエンターテインメント化してるのはダメです。
ダメダメです。わざとらしくてしらけます。
お金にもうちょっと余裕が出たら
NHKさんのドキュメンタリーをBoxで大人買いするのが
最近の目標です。というか夢です。

ていうか誕生日近いんで買ってください。＜姉

Lately I realized I haven’t been doing anything I really like to do. Most of the time I go out because my friends ask me so…Even the movies we watch, I usually don’t get to pick. So I decided to watch what I really want to watch this week, while Noah’s gone to NY for a business trip. (yes I used his netflix account, but he knows…I think…) It’s kind of silly, but I had to think for a while what I want to watch. I didn’t want to see anything my friends would pick, the movie has to be something truly of my taste. I remembered that I used watch a nature documentary show on NHK when I was little all the time. I was so into the show that even the day I was too sick to go to elementary school I pulled myself from bed to see the show. I liked how the show simply showed the beautiful images of nature, without making it into some kind of shitty entertainment. I don’t like some of nature documentaries these days, especially when they’re trying to make you surprise and be shocked by “facts” of less known creatures. So I picked The Blue Planet from the list, and it was very calming film to watch.

mmm…I need to buy DVD box set of the documentary show I used to watch soon…

リンダリンダリンダ

暑い日が続いたかと思うと、急に冷え込んだりして油断が出来ません。
相変わらずめちゃくちゃな天気ですが、大体元気でやってます。
今週はDVDで「リンダリンダリンダ」を見ました。
女子高生がバンド組んで文化祭でライブをする、というお話。
もともとのギター担当が利き腕に怪我して弾けなくなったり、
友人関係が悪化してバンドから抜けたボーカルの変わりに
急遽引き入れた新メンバーは韓国から来た留学生。
日常会話もぎこちない子なのに、ライブは大丈夫なのか！？っていう内容です。
観終わってすごくさわやかな気分になりました。ああ、青春っていいなあー。
高校時代に戻れたらバンドやりたいなあとか、そんな気分になる映画。
あとTHE BLUE　HEARTSはいいよね。リンダリンダ最高だよね。
日本語わかんなくてもノリでみんな一緒に歌えるのが嬉しい。
ROCKBAND日本版はQ Entertainmentさんがローカライズされるそうですが
リンダリンダは是非入れて欲しい曲のひとつですね。

上の映画と微妙にかぶらなくもないのですが、
友人関係に関する考察で興味深い記事があったので。
押井守監督が語る、「『うる星やつら』の友人関係」
上のソン（留学生）の立場とからめると、利害関係から始まった編成だけど
終わってみたらなんとなく仲間になってました、ていう感じだろうか。
仲間だけど、あくまでソンはソンのままで、
日本人のグループに完全に同化してるわけじゃない。
やっぱり微妙に孤立してるんだけど、受け入れられてるっていう。
そういう関係って自然で健全だなあと思います。
うーん、こじつけかな、これは・・・。

The weather in Boston has been ridiculous. One day it was way too hot, but the next day it got too cold. I am still doing generally pretty ok, though not perfect… This week we watched Linda Linda Linda, the Japanese movie about high school girl band. The plot is pretty simple; the band signed up for live concert at their school festival, but their vocal left couple of days before the performance, and now they need to replace the position with someone else…not only they are running out of time for practice, but also the new member is from Korea, an exchange student who barely speaks Japanese. When I was watching this movie I was nervous because I thought the Korean girl will be treated too awkward. It could’ve been painful to watch, because that would’ve bring me back the memories of bitter days in high school in Virginia…being a foreign student in high school is not really the most enjoyable experience, especially when you don’t know how to communicate with people in their style. However, the movie didn’t make me feel sad at all. I really loved Son, the Korean character (in fact she is the coolest of the all members) and I really liked how the story evolved. The most successful part of this movie is the dialogs. All the lines feel very natural to me, believable, and simple without being scarce. It’s rare to see movies being successful composing such right amount of dialog these days, and I am very happy to find one here.

八月ですねー

お久しぶりです。前よりも仕事は忙しくないのですが
なんとなく、だらだらすごしているうちに８月になっていました。
社内では夏風邪が一部で流行っている模様です。
相方もやられたみたいで、めずらしく仕事を休んでいました。
前にN氏が風邪で寝込んだのは、二年前の冬だったので
ちょっと様子を見に、仕事帰りに訪ねていったら
パソコンでダウンロードしたマンガ読んでるし。
ていうか即日全快？相変わらず回復力高いなあ。

最近日本の青年マンガにはまっているようで
フォルダに入ってるのは私も知らないような作家のマンガばっかり。
とりあえず青年マンガのことを、何も知らない米国人に
Adult Mangaだと紹介するのはやめといたほうがいいと
もっと強く主張すべきかどうか迷うところです。
大分前になりますが、初めて
「昨日は一晩中seinen comicを読んでたよ！」
って朗らかに言われたときは成年コミックのことかと思ったし。
・・・べつにいいけどさあー。

それ以外には、まあだらだらとThe Fifth Element観て
Hell Boy2観て何故か「カタクリ家の幸福」も観て
First　Blood（邦題：ランボー）で終わった今週一週間。
カタクリは例によって三池監督作品なのですが
あらためて、編集作業中の監督の顔を見てみたいと思いました。
一人でくつくつ含み笑いしながら作業してるんでしょうか。謎。
個人的に松坂慶子のハジけっぷりに敬意を表したい。ああもう。
ランボーはいい映画ですね。後半の、ランボーの台詞にみる
ベトナム帰還兵の心情描写にグッときました。
でも町の保安官の悪役ぶりはありえないですね。
全篇通じて女性キャラがほぼ皆無なのも
油断するとスタローンがソリッドスネークに見えてしまうのも
まあ、ランボーだし、しょうがないよね。

明日はNewbury Stに髪切りにいって
HarvardのBrattleシアターで上映中の「カサブランカ」観にいく予定。
わあ、なんて乙女な一日。

It’s been a while since the last entry, and summer is here all the sudden. I finally went to hair salon on the week, and now my hair is nice and short, just right for summer. This time I tried Mie Higashimoto at Newbury St. I’ve heard about the place from some Japanese people around me, and they all say they are good. The place was really nice, indeed, they know how to treat hair like mine. Their services are just like Japanese hair salon in Tokyo, they made me feel like I was back in Japan. The weather was nice on the day, and I enjoyed long and luxury afternoon. At night Noah and I went to see Casablanca at the Brattle’s, and after that we were at Finale for some late night treats. It was the first time I went to Finale,a pricy but really nice dessert place. We had a set of small potions of dessert wines and assorted sweets. The white wines were really good…I especially liked the sweetest and the most fruity wine made with apricot. I can’t remember the name of it, but next time I go, I will definitely order that. mmm…I like taking vacations…

The Dark Knight

バットマンの新しい映画、The Dark Knight観てきました。
公開が金曜の午前０時で、さすがに公開日はもう売り切れだろうと
週末のIMAXのチケットとろうと思ったらすでに売り切れ。
・・・一ヶ月も前から。（IMAXは高画質のフィルム上映で、通常よりも綺麗に写るらしい）
仕方なく日曜午後の普通上映をやっとのことで予約したものの
いざ映画館に入ってみれば満席で、めちゃくちゃ混んでる！

何についてものんびりしてるアメリカでこんなになるなんて、これはまさに異常事態ですよ。
初日の興行収入はスパイダーマンを超えたとか、主役級の俳優が撮影中に急死したりとか、
何かと話題の多い映画ですが、クオリティのほうも異常事態。
ストーリーも役者も平均点以上で、ほぼ満点に近い印象。
唯一難をつけるとすれば話が長すぎて、後半若干テンポが悪くなる事くらいか。

ジョーカー役のHeath Ledgerが撮影中に亡くなったのは有名ですが
その話抜きでも迫力のある映画だと思います。
ジョーカーすごいよ・・・鬼気迫る演技ですね。
個人的にうまいなあと思ったのはジョーカーとバットマンの間にTwo Faceという
悪役を持ってきたとこ。このキャラクターはすごくいいです。
ありがちなコンセプト（二面性）をうまくみせるなあと感心しました。
あと、Two Faceの顔は微グロだなあ、トラウマものだなあとも思いました。
感想終わり。

So The Dark Knight is out, and everyone around me was so excited about this movie. Almost all of us went to see it on the weekend it came out, and everyone except one person absolutely loved the movie. This is pretty impressive because most of us are comic fans, as well as harsh film critics. The one person is not me, by the way…I liked the movie just like the rest of us. During the movie I noticed that all the actors have strong characteristics in their faces rather than just being good looking. I assume it’s intentional, so they would have more physical presence. By that I mean making the batman world more believable or realistic. This movie is full of little neat things to make a superhero story closer to life. I am impressed how they brought the classic American comic theme “good vs. evil” to higher level of reality, by introducing the dilemma of being a hero and the gray zone between light and dark. Maybe this has already been expressed in the comic, but I liked how they emphasized the idea in this movie without being cheesy. The Two Face character is really interesting, especially when he is placed between batman and the Joker. And the Joker is…just amazing. This movie is about a batman story, but the superhero is depicted only as the other side of this villain. Like the coin the Two Face tosses, those two are the two sides…so close to each other.

In other words, this is a very good movie to see in theater. Go now, if you haven’t yet. My only criticism is that the story was little too long. I felt like I was watching two movies in one. (and toward the end it loses good tempo a bit)

キャンプ

週末はキャンプでした。同僚と１０人くらいでニューハンプシャーまで。
生まれて初めて湖で泳ぎました。気持ちよかったよ！
二泊三日の日程だったので、二日目まるまる使えてよかったです。天気も最高だったし。
初日の夜に、へんなおっさんがこっちのキャンプファイアにフラフラ寄ってきて
「パーテーしようぜえーうへへ」みたいな誘いがあったらしいのですが
アウトドア慣れしているメンバーの機転で、とっさに明かりを消し
暗闇で何も見えないおっさんがT-Rexのようにうろたえている隙に
それぞれのテントに非難したので、無事でした。
ちなみに鳥っこ含む女性陣は寝てたので、この話は翌日聞いたんですけど。

A bunch of us went to NH last weekend for camping fun. We stayed by a lake in Conway, and I enjoyed swimming in a lake for the first time in my life. It was exciting–including a little wildness like seeing a leech for the first time also (it was gross). On the first night, after all of girls went to bed (ladies are sleepy creatures, you know) our guys had scary incident. When they were drinking surrounding the fire, a guy emerged from the dark and came up to them. He seemed to be trushed pretty bad, and creepy enough to make them think that he would be dangerous. The guy asked for them to “play a game” with him, and came closer slowly. It was getting too creepy, and one of them wisely turned all the lights off instantly. (He said they quickly moved back to own tents “while the guy was lost in dark like T-Rex”.) After all, no one was hurt, but that was quite spooky thing to happen at night–especially in forest. I was sleeping then, but I remember waking up because the guy was still walking around and searching for us after everyone evacuated to their own tents. He kept talking to himself in loud voice, saying something unclear to hear in angry voice.

Other than that, everything was beautiful and full of fun stuff.
